Schalkenbosch Estate is committed to the preservation, conservation, protection and rehabilitation of the indigenous flora and fauna and the many endangered species found in this area. It has been placed under the Stewardship of Cape Nature in perpetuity.

In line with the conservation objectives, Schalkenbosch has an environmentally friendly approach to vineyard management. Water saving drip irrigation and care of naturally occurring floral vegetation between the rows of vines are essential in the daily care of the vineyards, and vital to preserve the natural moisture in the soil. This encourages the animal and bird life helpful in pest control, enabling us to use minimal chemicals, and increase the use of natural fertilisers.  Any water needed for optimal growth of the vines is gravity fed from a dam above the vineyards. Our grapes are harvested by hand and not machinery, reducing our carbon footprint and providing much needed employment in the area.
