Schalkenbosch Vineyards

The vineyards are situated high up on the slopes of the Witzenberg mountain range overlooking the picturesque Tulbagh valley. The soils are similar to those found in the Rhone Valley in France and the vineyards enjoy a unique micro-climate. A late sunrise is due to the shadow of the mountain. Cool mists occur most nights, which when coupled with warm day time temperatures, create ideal conditions for the production of premium quality wines.

The following varieties have been planted on Schalkenbosch Estate:-

  • Shiraz
  • Cabernet Sauvignon
  • Merlot
  • Mourvedre
  • Malbec
  • Cabernet Franc
  • Petit Verdot
  • Viognier
  • Sauvignon Blanc
  • Chardonnay
  • Grenache
  • Nouvelle

At present there are three different labels regularly produced on Schalkenbosch Estate. A number of “own labels” have also been produced for overseas orders and these include, Delichon (a friendship wine with a group of Swedish Hoteliers and the Cape Winelands), Onvergeet, Oude Boer and Rooikat.

“Schalkenbosch is committed to the conservation and preservation of indigenous fauna and flora and is a member of the biodiversity and wine initiative.”
